Journaling

#2 Most best-est daily personal growth activity

You can do it alone. And you save tons on therapy.

Keep a diary.

It’s something I request that all my clients do.

I grew up Mormon. And say what you will about Mormons, but they encourage journaling. So I did. Thousands of pages from the age of 14. Not only did it help me improve my writing skills dramatically, (my 9th grade English teacher accused me of plagiarizing Alistair Cooke), but keeping a journal helped me deal emotionally with some of the crazymaking in my family. Once I was older, it allowed me to see unhealthy patterns I was living. Once I saw them, I could let them go.

Why else is keeping a journal or diary helpful?

Writing down the day’s events forces you to slow down. It forces you to take time out that you wouldn’t normally take. Not to ‘do’. But to ‘look at doing’. We keep busy. Watching and interacting with a big wide world and lots of people, digitally and otherwise.

What don’t we look at?

Ourselves. Writing about our feelings and experiences allows us to turn the camera inward and see the one thing we usually ignore the most: us.

Doing that makes us more conscious about what happened and our reaction to it.

While writing, we may be triggered, but we are not in the events. So we can more easily (if imperfectly) step outside ourselves and evaluate what really happened.

Does our reaction to the event seem too big? Too small? What would I think and feel if someone else told me the story I am writing?

And what if something is not happening we want?

Sometimes we are not acting because of fears we don’t even realize we have. Writing about our so-called ‘laziness and procrastination’ helps us empathize with the parts of ourselves that have fear about taking action. Taking that extra step back helps us drop our judgement and, if necessary, to ask for more help if we need.

And, even scientists agree:

The Main Issue: Domination and Authority

We live in a world created for us by our culture.  Here, world doesn’t refer to the planet. It refers to how we see things.

Our culture’s primary doctrine is the domination system.

In a domination system, we tell others ‘below us’ what to do. Parents command children. Bosses command employees. Generals command soldiers. Lawmakers command the populace. The domination system is built on one central idea:

“1) There is a right way to do things and 2) someone knows what that is.” (Marshall Rosenberg)

If we accept this idea, then the only question left is whose domination we will accept.

Who knows what is best for us? Our priest? Our president? Our king? Our father?

Most of the time, when we move towards so-called ‘freedom’, we simply substitute one ruler in our lives for another. Even when we try to live ‘our inner truth’, we find what we seem to want from moment to moment is contradictory, confusing, and the results of looking for it frightening.

The idea of “the right way” is so deeply ingrained in us in so many ways, dropping it is a monumental task.

The patriarchal system of the past 5000 years or so has also, in its determination of what is right, fundamentally denied all persons (but especially women) their power.

My work is dedicated to the opening and rediscovery of our inner power individually so that we can reclaim our power and build a better world together.

Several forms of healing, consciousness and awareness expansion can be used for this.

And perhaps the fastest way to do this is through meditations, such as those found in the Vigyan Bhairav tantra.

Once we have dropped the bonds holding us back in our power, we can begin exercising our energetic flexibility and power in getting what we want (meeting our core needs) in this world.

This will enable us all to work from a level of openness and completion that was previously known only to very few.

Our Current Projects to Change the World…

changing-the-world…through raising consciousness and healing.

First, we are creating a healing tantric temple in the San Francisco Bay area where men and women can come to learn how to release guilt, shame, and fear around their bodies, their sexuality, and their very life energy.

Here they will learn to overcome emotional and mental blocks toward healing and wholeness, guided by systems of healthy archetypes and ancient and modern wisdom.

The temple will facilitate teaching in the form of sessions, classes, workshops, and rituals as well as healings utilizing energy and touch in all its forms, and create a space or space(s) where all this can happen.

Second, we are using the power of the temple to manifest a retreat/workshop space and healing center outside of the San Francisco Bay area for longer retreats.

Third, we will be creating an entire loving eco-village community based around the concepts of consciousness and non-violence that have been lost and must be re-established in this world.

The final result of this will be rolling out these ideas to 10,000 villages/communities who are devoted to deepening consciousness and awakening through applying the principles of peace, non-violence, and love we have re-learned in our first village community experiments.
